The G7X Mark III – A Canon Failure?

G7x Mark III is it a canon failure? Auto Focus is much worse than the Gx7 mark ii

G7X Mark III

Well, Canon finally released the G7X Mark III. I have been awaiting this camera since the G7X Mark II was released back in 2016. Although missing a few requested features, I’m sure it will be another big seller for Canon. At the $749usd price point on the G7X Mark III you can expect the following:

  • DIGIC 8 Processor Stacked 1 inch CMOS Sensor
  • 24 to 100mm equivalent – F1.8 to 2.8 Lens
  • Microphone Port – No more need for this https://youtu.be/YrS9IKNNzbU
  • USB-C Charging
  • Reinforced Screen
  • 4K UHD video at 30p – No DPAF – Limited to 10 minutes
  • HDR Movie Capture
  • 1080p 120fps video capture for slow motion – Limited to 7:29 seconds
  • No video limit on other options
  • Live Streaming & Vertical Video Support for those with VVS
  • no crop!

Hey Canon! Why no 24p? I’m not sure why they have been removing this frame rate in their recent cameras. I know a lot of people like 24p for that “cinematic” feel.

Update: I don’t believe this camera was much of a hit as the autofocus does not work well in the camera. Also the G7x mark iii has had some overheat issues in the 4k mode.

What are your thoughts on this camera? Are you let down a bit? Will this be your next rig?
